about me
I am a Brooklyn-based cinematographer originally from Vietnam.
Growing up, English was not my common tongue and so I found myself obsessing over visual language. This would manifest itself when I consumed music videos over just listening or literature in the form of comic books, but even more so during family movie nights.
From Hong Kong martial arts to Hollywood blockbusters, I was so sucked in by the visuals.
I think that at that point in time, watching films in that manner helped me develop a level of empathy and instinct that I still value to this day. Once I started down the path of filmmaking, I began to amass vocabularies and techniques that would enrich my understanding of how to craft the images that I felt as a child. With each new component that I learned, whether it’s framing, lighting, mise-en-scene, etc, I gained a greater appreciation for image building.
As I get further along in my career, I am proud to take on the duties and responsibilities as a translator between all of my collaborators. With the eye that I’ve developed from when I was young, I aim to bridge the gap between words to the lens. From the directors that I work closely with to the crew that put their trust in me, I get immense joy when I see everyone thrive while speaking the same visual language.
